Email tracking and privacy
Some email sent through this service records two things, so the sender knows it arrived and was useful:
- Opens: a tiny image in the email. When your mail app loads it, we note the time and your country.
- Link clicks: links pass through this site on the way to their destination. We note which link and when.
What we don't record
Your IP address, your device or browser details, or anything you do after you leave this site. Many mail apps (Gmail, Apple Mail) load images through their own servers, so an "open" may not mean a person read it.
Why, and for how long
To let the sender see that important messages were delivered and read (the sending organisation's legitimate interest in effective communication). Records are deleted automatically after the period the sender set, 90 days unless they chose otherwise.
Your choices
- Use the "stop tracking" link at the bottom of any email from us: we stop recording for your address.
- Turn off loading images in your mail app: opens are then never recorded.
- Your browser's Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track setting is honoured: nothing is recorded.
- To see, correct or delete data about you, or to complain, contact the sender's organisation using its privacy notice. In the UK you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Message pages
A message's provenance page shows who sent it and when, and proves it with a signature. Its text is stored encrypted: only the link in the email itself can open it, and the key in that link is never sent to this site.
